Wow…we could see a record cold “high” temperature on Tuesday! The record is 48 downtown and 49 at the airport. We might tie or break that with an Arctic blast coming into the area. Look for 20’s Tuesday night and Wednesday inland as well. A Chilly pattern and week ahead for us with lots of sunshine.

During my Air Force duty this weekend we had a unique opportunity to fly some of our civic leaders on one of our local training missions. It is always wonderful to show our community leaders and employers what we do in the Air Force Reserve everyday. Our employers play a key role in keeping our nation safe by supporting their employees who serve in many different roles throughout the military. Great thanks to our C-17 crew from the 317th Airlift Squadron and all that make it happen at Charleston Air Force Base everyday.

Well, we’re busy tracking some cold weather heading our way; so it’s time to get ready for tonight’s broadcast. I hope you can join us for the evening shows and back before you go to bed for an update at 11.

High temperatures in the 70s will be a distant memory as we wrap up the weekend. A strong cold front has moved across the state and temperatures will struggle to get out of the 50s on Sunday. In fact, temperatures this upcoming week will be well below normal despite lots of sunshine. Tuesday night may be the coldest night so far this season as overnight lows are expected to dip into the 20s away from the coast. Maybe just a reminder that the holidays are right around the corner.

The tropics remain quiet and looks like Paloma will be our final named storm for this season. I’ll have a recap on the 2008 hurricane season this upcoming week. Find out how well the experts did compared to the final numbers.

That’s it for now. Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend. Don’t forget to tune into Live 5 News tonight.

Well, we’re heading into the end of the week and some rain showers will be around Thursday and Friday. Look for highs in the mid to upper 70’s by Friday with the possibility of some showers and strong thunderstorms Friday evening/night as a powerful cold front heads our way. Friday night lights high school football games may be a tad wet this week.

Once the front goes by Saturday afternoon, we’ll clear quickly and turn much cooler for Sunday.

Onto other subjects…..

I am working on a cool story about my high school ring that was lost 28 years ago when I was a junior. The ring was found by a railroad worker in Rhode Island and returned to the high school I attended. Ironically, the new principal of that high school in Attleboro, Massachusetts moved to the school from Bishop England here in Charleston. The ring was returned to him and he noticed it had my name and that I attended the school back in the 70’s.

Bottom line is that the ring was returned to a New England high school where a guy from Charleston just became principal who knew a weatherman in Charleston that attended his new school a long time ago! Crazy story and I hope to have it ready for air next week. I’ll let you know when it will run.

Looking forward to Tuesday night when we light up the Ronald McDonald house for the holiday season. This is one of my favorite organizations and we use this opportunity to raise money to run the house which gives free room and board to families of sick children at MUSC. Check out the website at RMDHOUSE.org

Well, time to get ready for the broadcast. I hope you join us for the evening shows tonight and back at 11 before hitting the hay for an update on the morning drive weather. Speaking of morning drive…don’t forget while driving to work and school to check out 96.9 THE WOLF tomorrow morning when you’ll have a few chances to win cash & keys which could open the door to a new car for a year or 10,000 dollars!

Take good care!

Well, Tuesday is Veteran’s Day as we honor those who served and are currently serving our nation. The weather looks fantastic for all the Veteran’s Day activities around the low country.

We enjoyed the parade on Sunday as Scott Williams and myself met many lowcountry residents along the route who came out to show their support. It’s great to see the people of the Lowcountry coming out for our Vets.

Our perfect weather will continue into mid week until we see a change with more clouds by Wednesday and some showers during Thursday and Friday.

I really enjoyed meeting thousands of people at the Fair last week. It’s always great to see old friend of Channel 5 and folks new to the area. After enjoying an elephant ear, some fine fried food and a few rides; it was time for me to call it a week Friday night! The kids made me do it! (Always an excuse to eat bad things!!)

My son wanted to fly in the helicopter which is an older Enstrom gas piston helicopter circa 1970 something! My wife blessed the adventure and after a quick preflight on the aircraft (something the pilot did not expect from a paying passenger) we were up and away 1200 feet above the fairgrounds. I have to admit, it’s a fun ride and unique look at the ongoings below. Noted was the mass of traffic on the way down highway 78 showing that the Fair is still a big draw for locals and the main source of income for the Exchange Club whose members do some amazing work year round in our community. A special shout out to those members that make it happen every year like Joe Bolchez and the many others who dedicate hours of work for the club.

Well, it’s time to get ready for the broadcast; so we hope you’ll join us this evening and then back with us later tonight before you go to bed for a live update at 11.

Another nice weekend is underway across the southeast. A cold front that moved through earlier today is now well offshore and high pressure will continue to build in overnight and tomorrow. This means we’ll see plenty of sunshine on Sunday with highs in the upper 60s. Not much change to our weather over the next few days. We’ll have dry, mild afternoons and clear, chilly nights as overnight lows dip down into the 40s. Rain chances will be on the increase for the end of the week, while temperatures will remain seasonable with highs in the 70s.

Today is the final day for the Coastal Carolina Fair. Hope everyone has gotten a chance to visit and enjoy the great food and entertainment. It was a spectacular week of weather for the the fair this year.

Powerful hurricane Paloma continues to churn its way across central Cuba and will quickly weaken to a depression by this time Sunday. Paloma peaked as a Category 4 hurricane earlier Saturday with winds up to 145 mph. Hopefully this is the last named storm for the 2008 hurricane season.

Be back tomorrow with more. Have a great Sunday !!

Just a few days into November and we’ve got another soaker on the way. After enjoying a fabulous weekend, our weather will be heading downhill overnight and especially on Monday. An area of low pressure will continue to develop in the Gulf of Mexico and move towards the area. Clouds will be on the increase tonight and rain will develop by morning. Some of the rain on Monday may be heavy at times. Right now it does not look like we’ll see rainfall totals like we saw a few weeks ago, but the morning and evening commute looks to be soggy. Showers will most likely linger into Election Day as this area of low pressure slowly moves across the coastal waters. Temperatures will be held down considerably for the beginning of the week as highs struggle in the mid 60s both Monday and Tuesday. Improvement begins Wednesday and the second half of the week looks dry and mild with highs in the 70s.

We’ll continue to track the rainfall here in the StormCenter, but of course the big news will be on Election Day as we elect a new Commander in Chief. Catch Chad, Ann, and Bill in the morning as they get you up and ready for the work week. Don’t forget the umbrella !! Have a great Monday !!

High pressure is anchored across the Southeast this weekend and will keep us dry and mild for Sunday. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s with mostly sunny skies. Changes are on the way for the beginning of the work week as an area of low pressure develops in the Gulf of Mexico and moves towards South Carolina. Clouds and rain will spread across the region starting Sunday night and will mostly likely continue through Election Day. There is a possibility for some heavy rain as well with this system, but a lot of it will depend upon the eventual track of this area of low pressure. More tomorrow on the wet start to the work week.

Hopefully, everyone will get a chance to visit the Coastal Carolina Fair this weekend and don’t forget, next Friday is Live 5 Night. Drop by the Live 5 House and meet your favorite Live 5 personalities. That’s it for now, we’ll chat some more on Sunday. Have a great rest of the weekend and don’t forget to turn your clock back before you go to bed tonight.

The soup is up to her. The weather though is up to mother nature and this couple of days, she has played with our calenders a bit bringing December weather in October.

Look for a slight warming trend towards Thursday and Friday. Thursday we kick off the Coastal Carolina Fair and it looks to be a great year for the Exchange Club’s signature event that helps raise money for many great causes they represent.

I will be broadcasting LIVE starting Thursday at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. We hope you come out and say hello while we enjoy some of that great Fair food!! Elephant ears will be frying and great rides will be rolling along the midway as kids of all ages enjoy this classic fall event.

Trick or Treat Friday night looks good as well. We’ll keep you posted on the weather for the end of the week activities.

By the way, don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour Saturday night before you go to bed.

Time to get ready for the broadcast, then home for some soup. I hope you can join us for the evening shows and back before you go to bed tonight at 11.
